AustralianFootball.com Celebrating the history of the great Australian game
Known initially as the Northern Blues the club joined Division Four of the VAFA in 2013 and they have since enjoyed a meteoric rise. Their debut season culminated in a 10.17 (77) to 6.7 (43) grand final defeat of Eley Park, and the following season saw them go back to back with a 24 point triumph against Richmond Central in the Division Three premiership decider. In 2015 the Blues consolidated in Division Two before cruising to the premiership the nest year under the new name of Preston Bullants. Third at the end of the home and away rounds the Bullants scored comfortable wins over Yarra Valley in the first semi final and West Brunswick Amateurs in the preliminary final to set up up a grand final encounter with St. John's Old Collegians. This proved to be a low scoring affair with little separating the teams on the scoreboard all day. However, it was the Bullants who kept their noses in front for most of the match, and when the final siren went they were 2 goals to the good with scores of 11.9 (75) to 9.9 (63). The 2017 season, only the club's fifth, saw them lining up in Division One and further enhancing their already impressive history by consolidating well, winning 11 of 18 matches to occupy fifth place on the ladder. After that there was a slight dip in fortunes during a 2018 season which produced 2 fewer wins and saw the Bullants finish sixth.
